Time Sensitive Legislative Updates
The following are some time sensitive legislative updates and information you need to know about.
As is often the case with our friends at ActForMO, this week’s update has information you need to know about before Saturday’s normal WTP Newsletter.
ActForMO Action Items and Updates 04/24/2024
The Republican Association of Central Committees of MO (REPACCMO) sent out the following update on Tuesday, 04/23/2024:
To: REPACCMO Mailing List
This email is an update on the current status of our efforts to protect our party's First Amendment Right to choose who goes on our primary ballot.
This email is NOT directly about vetting, nor is the lawsuit. So, regardless of your position on vetting, you should be VERY concerned about the outcome of our trial.
Why? Because our May 7th court date is about one thing only:
Does government have the right to dictate who can be on our party's primary ballot?
The correct answer to that question is, "Hell No!" The Republican party (and the Democrat party) "own" their primary ballots. It is up to the party to determine who can or cannot be on that ballot. Candidates whose names appear on our primary ballot are assumed by voters to represent our party's values, and the party decides who those people are. Regardless of the method used, all organizations vet the people wanting to be part of their group.
😡 If we allow government to dictate who can and cannot be on a party's ballot, we have succumbed to the tactics of third world countries. 😡
The Vernon County Republican Committee will NOT allow that to happen.
SCOTUS just decided a Colorado case that said Colorado could not keep President Trump off their ballot.
A corollary of keeping a candidate OFF the ballot is government deciding which candidates will be ON a ballot.
🤔 If you can do one, you can do the other. 🤔
Yet right here in Vernon County, our county clerk took filing fees and immediately also accepted the Republican candidacies of people we had already rejected in writing, both to the clerk and the candidates.
• The clerk accepted their Republican candidacies knowing the party had rejected them!
• Then, the clerk indicated she would need a court order to remove them.
• We complied, and the clerk was served with that order on April 8th.
• Rather than comply, she then contacted the county attorney to fight the order!
In other words, she apparently believes government can dictate to a political party who WILL put on ITS party's primary ballot!
Folks, we cannot allow this to stand! We do not have free and fair elections if government controls a party's ballot. Therefore, Vernon County will be in court on May 7th to defend the rights of our Republican party on behalf of every county across the state.
🗽There is something YOU can do to help us stand up to this tyranny (and "No", it is NOT give us money!)
The county's insurance company made it clear they would not cover the trial. So, the country commissioners caved to the clerk's office and agreed to fund it instead! They are literally wasting taxpayer dollars over the county clerk's violation of our First Amendment rights!
YOU CAN HELP BY CONTACTING THE COMMISSIONERS
417-448-2505 or email at commission@vernoncountymo.org
🕟 They are in session today (Tuesday) and tomorrow. 🕟
It does not matter if you don't live in Vernon County because this will set a precedent for other counties as well
√ Call the commissioners, and tell them funding this suit with taxpayer dollars is wrong.
√ Tell them they should be protecting the First Amendment not financing a rogue clerk.
√ Tell them you fully support the Vernon County Republican Committee's efforts to repel government intervention in our elections.
√ AND, share the attached press release with your own local papers, radio stations, friends, and support groups.
• Have them contact me if they would like an interview or more information.
The Vernon County Republican Committee thanks you for your support.
