“For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.”
1 Peter 2:15-17
Nine MO Senators Fight Blanket Corporate Immunity
Whether we like it or not, glyphosate is on the menu when we consume most conventional foods. That fact isn’t really in dispute much anymore. The question in play now is whether or not the amount of glyphosate making it into our food is enough to have health implications on us, particularly our children. Rather than allow the legal battles to play out in court, as they should if this product is causing harm to consumers, corporations are seeking blanket immunity through HB 544 and SB 14.
Please reach out to these Senators and thank them for standing up for us!
Mondays With Mark - Thunderdome Edition
For those who do not know, Congressman Mark Alford periodically has an event in various locations across the 4th Congressional district called “Mondays With Mark”, where he meets with his constituents in a small group setting, and many times has one-on-one conversations. When I first learned of these events, I was impressed, because this is not something all Congressmen do. I may not always agree with Mark on policy, but I absolutely respect his desire to meet and listen to his constituents from day one.
Last night, I learned that the next one of these meetings was scheduled for this morning at Random’s Coffee, in Belton. I also learned that word on social media was that there were a lot of angry leftists (is there any other kind?) and disgruntled federal workers that lost their jobs as part of the DOGE cost cutting measures that were planning on crashing the event. I agreed to attend as a favor to a friend, not sure what to expect.
I arrived around 7:30am to about 20 people inside the coffee shop, no torches or pitchforks in sight. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and an iced tea (not a coffee guy) and had a seat where I could see both the inside of the building and the street. More people began arriving shortly thereafter, and by 8:00am the building was at capacity, and the Fire Marshall was stopping people at the door. A line began to form down the sidewalk, and eventually reached the corner down the block. At this point, no one was really getting out of line, but some people were very irate that they were being forced to write their questions down on a 3x5 card and turn them in to get Mark to answer them. A couple of people insisted that they would just ask him in person when he arrived, and they were told that was not the way this forum was taking place, and they would be asked to leave.
Mark arrived at about 8:25 to a couple of loud “Boo” shouts, and he began to speak right at 8:30. The front door of the building was held open, and Mark was interrupted several times by angry shouts that the people outside could not hear him. I’m not sure what they expected him to do about that, but they continued to badger him about it. Eventually, someone figured out how to get the speakers to be louder, and the angry people outside settled down… for a bit. Throughout the event, people kept trying to push their way in from time to time, and the Fire Marshall would have to escort them back out. The orderly line that had formed down the sidewalk was abandoned as soon as Mark began speaking, and it turned into a mob at the front of the building, trying to get past the Fire Marshall and the Belton PD whenever they could. Shout out to the Belton PD, the Fire Marshall, and the owners of Random’s Coffee. They were put in a very difficult situation, and all remained calm and kept order very well.
Two things stood out to me at this event:
The crowd was hostile, not interested in dialogue of any kind, and determined to shout Mark Alford down, no matter what he said.
Mark Alford was gracious, extremely patient, and did his best to communicate with a mob that was determined to verbally vomit on him at the highest decibel level possible.
Our congressman, Mark Alford, deserves a ton of credit for walking in to that meat grinder and making the best of a bad situation, handling the entire fiasco with patience and class. If I’m being honest, I would have ended that “meeting” in the first 5 - 10 minutes. That said, I am glad I went, because it reminded me that there is a very thin margin of sanity that separates life as we know it, from a very bad future. If the adults in the room do not find a way to come together and work with each other on policies that we can all agree on, the lunatic left is going to destroy our country once and for all. We are still one bad election night from a very dystopian future. We have got to stop challenging each other’s motives and character, and focus on crafting good (not perfect) policy.
Please pray for Mark Alford and his staff, that God would protect them, give them wisdom, discretion, guide them in doing good, avoiding evil, and holding the line with President Trump in taking the drastic steps no one else would take to ensure the future of our great Republic!
