I’ve been crazy busy this week, so it’s a short newsletter. Not a lot of new information to pass along anyway. Just more of the same. MO Freedom Caucus trying to do Republican things, and the RINOs in leadership trying to stop them.
Let Us Not Grow Weary
I don’t know about you, but I’m tired. Weary even. Trying to keep track of all the the things that need doing as an informed participant in the political process, on top of normal life, can be overwhelming. When you consider the recent obstructionist and leftist actions of people in Jefferson City who are supposed to be “conservative” and “Republican”, it can be very disheartening as well.
And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
Galatians 6:9 NKJV
I hate sports analogies. They are “overplayed”, just like the song “My Achy Breaky Heart” by Billy Ray Cyrus was, back in the day. My hypocrisy aside, one of the lessons sports participation can teach proves true in this situation. All the work we do in preparing for the legislative session is not for the first day. It is for the days when you’ve been working hard, relentlessly trying to gain ground, and you feel like you’re about out of gas. That, my friends, is when you push harder. Whatever happens from this point forward in this legislative session, even if we do not succeed in all that we would want to accomplish, let it be said that we were not outworked. Let’s make sure that in 6 months, when we look back on this legislative session, we did everything we could to make the difference.
IP Reform Status
There was a lot of activity this week on IP Reform, and much of it was not good. The end result is a very flawed IP Reform bill, that as I understand it, creates a two-tiered system for MO Constitutional Amendments, does not prevent illegal aliens from voting, and does not prevent foreign actors from funding crap petitions that do not belong in our Constitution. The hope is that the House will clean it up, but I have no more faith in the leadership in the House than I do the leadership in the Senate. I also have less confidence in the conservatism of the overall House. We will see how it plays out.
