4Cs ACTION ALERT! IP Reform Hearing TOMORROW!
SJR 61 Hearing Set For 01/29/2024 at 2:00pm in SCR 2
As I said in the newsletter yesterday, new information would likely come out about IP Reform soon, and things would move fast and furious. Here we go.
Our friends over at Missouri First sent out notice about a hearing scheduled for TOMORROW, Monday, January 29th, at 2:00pm for SJR 61. Their notice also provides some great detail around why we need IP Reform, and how, specifically, SJR 61 addresses the issue correctly, while other IP Reform legislation does not.
The Summary of SJR 61 is as follows (emphasis mine):
SJR 61 - Under current law, any constitutional amendment or new constitution takes effect when approved by a simple majority of the votes cast on the measure. Under this joint resolution, if approved by the voters, any constitutional amendment or new constitution takes effect when approved by both a simple majority of the votes cast on the measure statewide and a simple majority of the votes cast in a majority of the state representative districts.
Additionally, no person shall be eligible to vote on any measure submitted to the people that amends, repeals, or replaces this constitution, whether submitted through the initiative petition process, by the General Assembly, or by a constitutional convention, unless such person is a legal resident of the state of Missouri and a citizen of the United States of America.
